Regarding the Pain of Others
Coming in January 2025
'But there is shame as well as shock in looking at the close-up of a real horror. Perhaps the only people with the right to look at images of suffering of this extreme order are those who could do something to alleviate it-say, the surgeons at the military hospital where the photograph was taken-or those who could learn from it. The rest of us are voyeurs, whether or not we mean to be. In each instance, the gruesome invites us to be either spectators or cowards, unable to look.'

P34, Regarding the Pain of Others; Susan Sonntag

On Semperdepot's first floor, the Media Class transforms the Pavillion into a temporary radio station. During a live session on Thursday, a six hour long show will be recorded. In response to the semester's topic 'On Violence', Susan Sonntag's text 'Regarding the Pain of Others' will be used as a scaffolding to reflect upon our perception of the pain of others through media.
